Data Collection

No YouTube Shorts does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data.

The extension operates entirely within your browser. It does not:

• Collect or send analytics
• Make network requests to external servers
• Use cookies
• Track your browsing activity
• Share data with third parties
• Access external APIs or services

Local Storage Only

The following data is stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local:

• A SHA-256 hash of the parent password (used to verify the unlock password)
• An unlock timer timestamp (used to auto-lock YouTube after the time limit expires)

This data never leaves your device. No passwords, browsing history, or personal information is transmitted anywhere.

Permissions Explained

• storage — Needed to store the password hash and unlock timer locally.
• alarms — Needed for the watchdog that keeps the extension running.
• management — Needed to re-enable the extension if someone tries to disable it.
• declarativeNetRequest — Needed to redirect YouTube Shorts URLs to the YouTube home page.
• host_permissions (*://*.youtube.com/*) — Needed to run the content script that blocks Shorts and shows the password gate on YouTube.

Third Parties

This extension contains no third-party code, libraries, or services. It does not load external scripts or resources.

Children

This extension does not collect any data from any user regardless of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted here. The extension will continue to collect zero data.
